Alternate Route Education in

 Dance/Movement Therapy

The ADTA and the Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board recognize an Alternate Route to dance/movement therapy registry and certification. The Alternate Route is a self-directed program of training which requires having or acquiring a masters degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher learning, plus general training, specific dance/movement therapy coursework, fieldwork, and an internship.

Click here to find out about the Dance/Movement Therapy Certification Board requirements for the Alternate Route.

Alternate Route coursework can take place at an accredited college or university, an institute, or from a specific instructor. Colleges & Institutes that offer ADTA approved courses are marked with * below. Individual courses in ADTA Approved master’s programs are approved courses.  Approved courses are automatically accepted when a candidate applies for the R-DMT credential via the Alternate Route. Students interested in taking approved courses should ask specifically about course approval prior to registering for courses. For some institutes and individual courses, college credit can be arranged.

There is no single path for Alternate Route training.  Click here for a chart that reflects the range of acceptable timing for the various requirements.

Additional information can be found in our FAQ for alternate route students.

Please note: All courses are not offered constantly throughout the year.  We encourage everyone to contact the provider directly for specific offerings and more information.  Alternate Route workshops and intensives are often listed on our Forum, under Announcements.  You may also check the ADTA Facebook page and the ADTA LinkedIn site.  Check these sites regularly, as new information is posted daily.
