ALTERNATE ROUTE DANCE/MOVEMENT THERAPY TRAINING

Dance/Movement Therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement to further the emotional, cognitive, physical, and social integration of the individual. The dance/movement therapist focuses on movement behavior as it emerges in the therapeutic relationship. Expressive, communicative, and adaptive behaviors are all considered for both group and individual treatment. (www.adta.org ).
An intensive Alternate Route Training Program in Dance/Movement Therapy will be held at the 92nd Street Y Harkness Dance Center, NYC, beginning June 9 – June 27, 2014. This program will take place over three summers, for 3 weeks each summer.
Applicants to the program need to have at least begun a Masters Degree in a related field, or in one of the helping professions.
Dr. Miriam Roskin Berger is the Director of this program, which offers the Dance/Movement Therapy course requirements of 270 hours for alternate route training, plus 90 hours of Movement Observation and Analysis and 45 hours of Group Process in DMT, as required by the American Dance Therapy Association. Integrate dance therapy theory with the best practices in dance education and positive behavior supports. Create movement activities that utilize strengths and meet the needs of children and adolescents who have emotional, behavioral, learning, sensory and/or physical challenges.
Offered in collaboration with 92Y Dance Education Laboratory.
Eligible for ADTA CE hours. This course is fully approved by the ADTA for Alternate Route credit for R-DMT training.
