Welcome to the ADTA ListServe. The ListServe was created for the purpose of increasing communication amongst dance/movement therapists and others interested in this profession around the globe in order to:
- Stimulate discussions around dance/movement therapy theory, practice and philosophical issues.
- Alert ListServe subscribers of important advocacy and legislative actions and efforts that can effect the practice of dance/movement therapy
- Assist students and allied professionals who may seek first hand information regarding this profession.
- Post announcements of educational opportunities (including conferences, workshops) that may be of interest to ListServe subscribers.
- Post notices of job opportunities.
ListServe subscribers are encouraged to share their feelings and thoughts regarding issues related to dance/movement therapy and it's practitioners and health care in general. We ask that, however, that political discussion that do not directly relate to the above issues be shared through another forum.
To use the ListServe you must first Subscribe to it. It doesn’t cost anything. All you need to do is go to http://lists.adta.org/mailman/listinfo/adta and follow the instructions provided.
You will very shortly receive a message from the server asking you to confirm that you wish to subscribe. That’s to make sure that someone else is not pretending to be you. Read the message carefully and follow the instructions carefully. The message will contain a key and will ask you to send a command found in the message back to adta-request@adta.org . This is a bit of a hassle, but it helps keep you from being swamped with email by someone who forged requests from your address.
Next you will receive a message telling you that you have been subscribed to the list. Please save this message for future reference because it will tell you how to Unsubscribe, should you ever want to. It will also contain other useful information such as finding out who is subscribed to the list, retrieving files from the list’s archives and how to get help.
Now you are up and running. To send a message to the list, address it to adta@adta.org. If you are responding to a message, use the Reply function of your email software. Always be aware, however, that the message you send will be available to the several hundred people also on the list.
If you decide to leave the list follow the above instructions but type unsubscribe rather than subscribe.
Courteous use of the Listserv:
- Use the 'subject' line to tell others the purpose of your email.
- If you are writing to the listserv by clicking on 'reply', you should update the subject line so that it reflects what you are writing about.
- If you are writing to the listserv by clicking on 'reply', delete extra addresses that show up in the 'to' column; many people on the listserv receive duplicate emails because people fail to do this.
- Indicate your name somewhere on the email. If you are uncomfortable giving your real name, then select a pseudonym and use it consistently, so that you have an identify or presence on the listserv. Members want to know who is responding, and want to know when people are new to the listserv.
- Do not send chain letters to the listserv.
- Do not send advertisements to the listserv unless they are directly related to the field. If you are announcing a course, prop, book, resource, or other product that is relevant to dance/movement therapy, identify this in the subject line so that people who do not want to read advertisements do not have to do so.
- Do not send forwarded letters to the listserv; many people cannot open these. Instead, if you wish to send material that has been forwarded to you, cut and paste it into a new email.
- Avoid sending attachments to the listserv; many people cannot open them, or are afraid to do so. If you do send an attachment, please explain in the body of the email why you chose to send an attachment, what kind of attachment it is, and what the content is.
- If you forward the content of an email from the listserv to another address, delete all the email addresses to which the original was sent so that you are not inadvertently sharing the listserv address or addresses of members with people who are not part of the listserv.
- It's nice to use spellchecker before you send out a letter, if you have this function on your email program.
