DMTCB Recertification/Continuing Education (Revised 2020)

Continued Education (CE) ensures excellence and professionalism in dance/movement therapy by fostering on-going education and growth; promoting quality clinical care, expanding research and theory development; and helping to promote the field of dance/movement therapy nationally and internationally.
Verification of CE hours is a requirement for all R-DMT or BC-DMT as soon as the DMT student becomes certified as an R-DMT/BC-DMT.  Credential recertification occurs every 5-years.
The process for recertification involves:
  1. Submission of a Recertification Filing Form attesting that the DMT has completed the requisite CE hours.
  2. Payment of a $25.00 (USD) maintenance fee.
  3. 10% of all DMTs who recertify are randomly selected to be audited.
Continuing Education (CE) can include activities that enhance the professional dance/movement therapist’s knowledge and competence. CE hours reflect the actual clock hours of participation in any activity. Categories include:
  1. Attending workshops, conferences, seminars.
  2. Taking college/university courses.
  3. Publication activities.
  4. Research activities.
  5. Advocacy/leadership involvement.
  6. Receiving BC-DMT supervision (for R-DMTs) or providing supervision/consultation (for BC-DMTs).
  7. Other activities such as taking classes or engaging in professional reading or research.
