Introduction to dance/movent therapy
Curious about dance/movement therapy? This full-day introductory intensive offers an experiential opportunity to learn about the foundations, principles, and practice of dance/movement therapy in a welcoming and engaging environment.
Designed for students, emerging professionals, dancers, educators, counselors, creative arts therapists, and others interested in embodied approaches to healing, this workshop provides an accessible introduction to how movement can be used intentionally within therapeutic relationships.
Participants will have opportunities to learn through both discussion and movement-based experiences while exploring the ways dance/movement therapists attend to the body, movement, relationship, expression, and connection.

Who Should Attend
No prior dance or dance/movement therapy experience is needed. This intensive is created for:
- Undergraduate and graduate students exploring careers in dance/movement therapy
- Dance interested in therapeutic applications of movement
- Counseling, psychology, social work, and creative arts therapies students and professional (NBCC CEUs available)
- Educators and helping professionals interested in embodied and movement-based approaches
- Anyone interested in learning more about the profession of dance/movement therapy

The Introduction to Dance/Movement Therapy intensive takes place on the opening day of ADTA61: Tides of Change—Innovations in Dance/Movement Therapy, November 5–8, 2026, in Long Beach, California.
Participants are invited to continue into the full conference for additional workshops, movement experiences, research, professional development, and opportunities to connect with the dance/movement therapy community.
